

Whilst completing my carpentry apprenticeship I was able to save a total of $10,000 which I used to purchase my first property in Carnegie located in Melbourne’s South East. Within 12 months of purchasing, I completely renovated the property and on-sold for a profit, I was hooked. I reinvested all of the profits in a similar venture and have continued this same cycle and philosophy ever since.
I registered the company SMA Projects with the intention of developing small residential townhouses within the 8-10km radius of Melbourne’s CBD. My vision at this time was to build the business to competently deliver 3-4 townhouses to the market each year.
I had expanded SMA into a small development company moving into constructing apartment developments of 10-15 lots within inner city suburbs such as Prahran, St Kilda and Richmond.
In line with the companies organic growth structure I once more expanded SMA Projects to deliver medium scale projects with development sizes increasing to 50-60 properties while also concurrently managing multiple projects.
Whilst maintaining a boutique development approach SMA Projects had established the capacity to deliver development projects comprising of 100 plus properties if and when required. I was then able to further SMA Projects’ development knowledge into small infill commercial and industrial to complement the company’s existing residential and mixed used experience.
SMA Projects acquired the landmark Yorkshire Brewery site in Collingwood that had laid dormant for many decades given the great opportunity to bring restoration to a forgotten iconic landmark (once the tallest building in Melbourne). As always I was on the lookout for a new and exciting project in areas that had real growth potential - the Yorkshire Brewery development satisfied all these requirements.
Currently working on around $480 million worth of residential and mixed use developments with a loyal and enthusiastic team, SMA has expanded into a professional and innovative development company with the skills and balance sheet to undertake large scale projects and deliver a quality product within the inner suburbs of Melbourne.
